All participants including vessel operators, researchers, port authorities and other industry stakeholders, will provide explicit consent for data collection and use of that data. Clear information about how any supplied data will be used, stored, and protected will be given to participants on creation of an account and this consent can be revoked by the participant at any time..

Data Minimisation
Only data strictly necessary for the research objectives is collected. No personally identifiable information is gathered unless absolutely essential and properly justified

Commercial Sensitivity
Special care is taken with commercially sensitive data from vessel operators. Confidentiality agreements are established where needed to protect business interests.

Ethical Framework
This research on the decarbonisation of inland waterways is conducted with the highest ethical standards, following the principles of integrity, transparency, and respect for all participants and data sources. The study has been reviewed and approved by the appropriate ethics committee within the frameworks provided by Newcastle University and is constantly under review.
